addresses and ports

this site, every network, one list. the hostname never changes; the scheme picks the protocol, and the port is part of the address where the canonical one is privileged.

gemini: port 1965, the standard, fixed

gopher: port 1024 (canonical 70: privileged, not held)

spartan: port 3300 (canonical 300: privileged, not held)

nex: port 1900

web: port 443

finger: port 7979 (canonical 79: privileged, not held). lagrange, or: nc unseenservant.dev 7979

titan: the gemini port, 1965. same listener, picked by scheme

why the odd ports

ports below 1024 need privileges. usv runs as an unprivileged process with an empty capability set, on purpose: a listener that cannot bind port 70 also cannot do anything else root can do. the cost is an explicit port in three addresses; the alternative costs more.

the generated list

this page is written by hand and can lag. the running server publishes its own answer, generated from live configuration and incapable of overclaiming:

every address this instance answers on, live
